US death metal juggernauts Dischordia force their way through the fabric of reality with their sheer might; to be vaguely specific, their inexorable march of dissonant, proggy, brutal, technical death metal music. When music like that evolves to be even more focused, dense, and potent than before, it becomes virtually unassailable which is the case with “Nocturne”. The avalanche of gargantuan, heaving riffs continues throughout the new album’s comparatively shorter duration and is suspended, albeit momentarily, with instrumental parts played on a toy piano, flute, or something unconventional like that. These interludes only serve to provide respite from the relentless churning while adding depth and intrigue to their wall of sound-resembling music that seems to be constantly moving closer to crush the listener. Once again, Dischordia have come up with a formidable album with a lot going on, warranting close attention and repeat listens to fully appreciate the extraordinary songwriting and musicianship on display.
